North Woodmere is located on the South Shore of Long Island, about 15 minutes from JFK Airport. Though there is no LIRR stop in North Woodmere the Gibson and Hewlett stations are approx 5 minutes away.

North Woodmere is bordered by Valley Stream, Hewlett, Woodmere and Cedarhurst.

North Woodmere is unique from the rest of the Five Towns of LI in a number of ways:

• Part of North Woodmere is located in the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream. In this way you get use of Valley Stream's Public Library and Park systems. It also utilizes the Village of Valley Stream's Sanitation Department where as the rest of the Five Towns uses the Town of Hempstead sanitation.
• North Woodmere does not have its own Post Office. The mail goes through the Valley Stream Post Office.
• Except for one small strip of stores including Annie Sez and Jerry's Bagels there is NO commercial area of North Woodmere. It is purely a residential community.
• There are no apartment buldings in North Woodmere. Single family homes are the norm.

Homes were built from the 1960's and later. North Woodmere homes are mainly Splits and Hi Ranches with a few Colonials and Splanches here and there.

The community is home to North Woodmere Park a 150-acre town park. The park has 3 swimming pools, a 9-hole golf course, 10 tennis courts, 4 handball courts, 2 basketball courts, 3 picnic areas and a  children's playground. Just south of the park is a fishing area on the west end of the inter-Woodmere creek.

North Woodmere is serviced by both Lawrence School District 15 and Hewlett Woodmere School District 14

North Woodmere is also home to the Bristal, an assisted living center that was built a few years ago. 

There are 3 shuls in North Woodmere - Temple Hillel, Congregation Ohr Torah and Young Israel of NorthWoodmere,

Homes in North Woodmere typically start in the mid $ 500,000s and go up from there depending on condition and size. There is also a small Condo development where units start in the $ 400,000s.
