UNCLE!!!

I give up - I give in - I have had enough!!

We are on the tail end of our 3rd snow storm in February, thank goodness the month is just about over.

A third snow day from school, a third day of customer cancelling appointments, a third day of shovelling.

Good thing about being a Realtor is that I can work from the comfort of my home. I made my calls, checked on my deals, and worked on confirming a closing for next week.

In between I asked  myself why I live here. Whon on Long Island, why in the Five Towns of all places? Why not live somewhere warmer - somewhere snow does not happen.

I came to realize that I love the change of seasons, I love being near NYC, I love being 5 minutes from the beach, I love being near my parents.  

My children got a great public education and made some great friends, my husband is a short drive from the skiing that he loves.

I guess when you look at it all togther, the snow is just a temporary inconvenience that passes, the important things will remain.

So I will shovel out one more time (I can use the exercise anyway) and hope that this is the last snow storm of the year.

I know I am ready for Spring!

The Five Towns on Long Island - Lawrence, NY  (Town 5 of 5)

The Five Towns is an informal grouping of towns located in Nassau County, NY on the South Shore of Long Island. The Five Towns is normally considered to be made up of: Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere (and Woodsburgh), Inwood and Hewlett (Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Neck, Hewlett Harbor).

The name "Five Towns" dates back to 1931, when individual Community Chest groups in the area banded together to form the "Five Towns Community Chest".

The Five Towns area is a great area to live work and play.

• It is convenient to New York City - less than 45 minutes from most towns via the LIRR (Long Island Railroad)
• Located on the South Shore of Long Island we are minutes from  the soft sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.
•  Just over 2 hours from skiing in New York's Catskill Mountains and New Jersey.
• Many discount and retail shopping areas.
• Wide varieties of restaurants and other eateries
• Many local parks, pools and golf courses.

Lawrence is located on the South Shore of Long Island, about 15 minutes from JFK Airport. It is easily accessible by car, bus and the Long Island Railroad (LIRR).

Lawrence is an Incorporated Village. It is home to the Peninsula Public Library and is only a couple of miles from the beaches of the Rockaways and Atlantic Beach.

The Lawrence Club is a public club featuring an 18 hole golf course which is one of the finest village owned courses in the state. The Yacht Basin is also village operated. There is also a Village Club House which features a restaurant & a ballroom for catered functions. The Village also operates 9 Har-Tru Tennis Courts.

Rock Hall Museum, ca. 1767 is considered one of the finest examples of Georgian colonial architecture on Long Island. Enrolled on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum offers guided tours and features a fully furnished cellar with a warming kitchen, cold storage room, wine cellar and permanent archaeology exhibit.

Lawrence is located within the Lawrence School District 15.

Cedarhurst Village Park is an award winning park and center for cultural and community events

Cedarhurst uses the schools and facilities of Lawrence School District 15.

Inwood is the first of the 5 Towns after Far Rockaway. It is located between Far Rockaway and Cedarhurst. Inwood is 5 minutes from the ocean beaches of Atlantic Beach NY.

It is home to the Inwood Country Club, a private golf club. It is minutes from the beaches of Atlantic Beach and the Rockaways.

Recently completed in Inwood is Yeshiva Ketana of Long Island.  Yeshiva Ketana of Long Island has established itself as an institution that personifies excellence in education and personal attention for each child.  The Yeshiva's curriculum and academic programs are highly acclaimed and its graduates are actively recruited by top mesivtas.  In order to provide the optimal educational environment for the Yeshiva's current and future students, the  Yeshiva purchased an approximately two- acre property located at 321 Doughty Blvd in Inwood which will be the site of the new YKLI campus. The future home of Yeshiva Ketana of Long Island will house the Yeshiva's pre-school and its elementary school in a modern and spacious facility.

New construction is heating up in Inwood. Two homes are currently being built on Morris Avenue, and more are slated to start in the area shortly.

New York State Cash For Appliances Rebate Program...

Washer leaving your clothes gray?

Stove just not getting the job done?

Now is the time to trade in those old appliances for new Energy-Star appliances and take advantage of the appliance equivalent of Cash for Clunkers.

Just starting is New York State's "Great Appliance Swap Out" program (a.k.a. "New York State Cash for Appliances Rebate Program"), where you can get money back when you purchase qualifying Energy-Star applicances. 

Here are the rebates:

• Refrigerators:  $75 rebate for eligible appliance.  Total of $105 back if you have a receipt proving you recycled the old one.
• Washers:  $75 dollar rebate for eligible appliance. Total of $100 with a recycling receipt
• Freezers:  $50 refund or $75 if you recycle the old one.
• If you bundle all three items, or any two plus an Energy Star dishwasher, you can be eligible for a $500 rebate, $550 with recycling receipt. 

The New York State Cash for Appliances Rebate Program is on a first-come, first-serve, basis and there is $ 18.7 million set aside to fund the initiative in New York state, according to the Web site.   You can learn more about "New York's Great Appliance Swap Out" and fill out a rebate application online at http://www.nyapplianceswapout.com/.
